4.1 Home Office for wedding organiser

I presented the project on 4 boards and also submitted the talk through as required:

1. Concept board

Before I started any developments on our project I spent about week asking every familiar young couple how would they describe the perfect wedding organizer. As a result of my research I have got a portrait of person who has previous experience of this kind of work and proud of it, sparkling with new ideas, creative, inventive, aware of last trends, perfectly organized and able to manage the team of various professionals, careful to details, cheerful, romantic, dynamic, positive.

In our habitation of the ideal wedding organizer the hall aiming to make the impression of that kind of person and office should help you actually to be that person. As for colours – I would take a cool spring palette to associate it psychologically with youth, beginning of a new life, fresh start.

Contemporary, professional, romantic, smart, cool and gentle spring colour scheme.

2. Hall

The hall is narrow and tall, so the idea is to break it onto two separate functional zones – the welcoming reception area and the photo gallery of the best wedding pictures from your grateful customers to let your visitors know how proud and professional you are. And just because the wedding pictures are always fabulous.

The wallpaper in reception area is in various shades of pink from fuchsia to ash-pink with washed floral pattern, the grand mirror creates the illusion of additional space behind, the slim light console table under the mirror will take care about gloves and keys, the soft rug is there to make the zone dividing more obvious and to create welcoming look in the reception area. Light but roomy arm chair lets the visitor feel surrounded with care from the first step. The low situated slick pendant creates the feeling that ceiling is where the light is so the room does not feel too tall any more.

The gallery situated on the opposite wall. Both “feature” parts of walls are decorated with white molding in order to make the break between areas even more dramatic. The wallpaper in gallery zone has the same pattern as feminine ash-pink wallpaper in reception but coloured in mild and rich shades of coal and graphite. The collection of the best wedding pictures framed in festive wide silver frames and lightened by directed lights placed on a comfortable distance away from the ceiling.

The rest walls, floor and ceiling painted in light grey mat colour that makes them to disappear next to bold wallpapered areas decorated with glossy accessories.

Tutor’s comment: This is a creative solution that deals with constraints and durability well. It would be useful to show where the double doors leading into the office and located. (I actually tried to avoid that because there were only dimensions for both rooms given without windows and doors locations. It says in brief we can improvise though. – O.)

3. Office / Guest room

Hall is mostly about feelings and impressions, and the office / guest room is more about functions and usability. Hall colour scheme makes a strong introductory statement with two bold accords of ash pink and graphite, and room palette takes it to the next level enriching with interpretations, variations, halftones, adding light and textures. The same fretwork as in the hall decorates walls and ceiling in the room.

The furniture for the office area is contemporary and practical but the main specification for it is a strong designer’s personality. Let’s make your customer think “The person who sit on this fabulous chair is able to make my special day a brightest and happiest event in my life!” Capacious cabinets provide a lot of space for catalogs and magazines and roomy surfaces for all necessary office equipment.

Seating area with big sofa can be used for informal meetings with clients or as a comfortable accommodation for guests. Floor lamp provides a local light, wool rug makes the place cozy, coffee table to put the cup on, open shelve system to store a light evening reading for guests or some more inspirational literature for wedding projects.

Tutor’s comment:  I would disagree that about distinct differences in the two areas; feelings and impressions would be an integral part of the office as this is where the planning of the wedding would happen. Perhaps jumping to a completely different environment would unsettle the client especially since the hall has much more character and boldness in its design compared to the office. Consider this to be more than just a sofa bed – what about a place to store the duvet and pillows, clothes hanging etc…

4. Coordinated scheme.  To emphasize the relations between hall and room I made another board to show styles and colours coordination. For some reason it did not work out, tutor still took the rooms as separated, probably because I made the emotional differentiation. And yes, hall has more character. I have to agree.

5. Talk through booklet

Tutor’s comment: Your passion for the project comes trough here, which is lovely to see. It is laid out well but maybe spend more time to justify the concept and how it has been translated into scheme – be careful with using literal images that are based on your own interpretation, e.g. the shoe image is not directly related to weddings and although you think it is practical and fashionable it may not be what your client think.

  2. I just want to say your work looks amazing!! I’m also studying OL with KLC, I just stumbled across your page. Reading about the sample board for the Salon has been very helpful, as I have also found Some places do not do samples! Especially the high end retailers. Anyway good lucky with your study, I have no doubt you will get a dream job in Interior design. Best wishes Rachel x

    • I am happy to hear from you Rachel, and very glad that my experience is helpful for you, that is what my diary for! Good luck to you too. It is so great to be in touch with OL students, I think we all feel lonely sometimes and need a word of support :)

  3. Hi Eve, I also came across your page whilst searching for inspiration for project 4. I’m like you also doing the same course and I’ve just submitted project 3. I’m VERY impressed with your drawing and rendering skills.. Any chance you could share some tips? I really struggle with the rending.. Am even considering art classes. Anything you may have to share would be useful. My issues, getting true colour representation and applying shadows!! Man it’s tough.

Stay well and hope to hear from you!
    Sonia

    • Hi Sonia! I am pleased to hear from you! I will try to compose some tips for you over this weekend. Art classes is a great thing to do anyway, nothing compares to real interaction with tutor and other students. Where do you live? Do not worry, just keep practice. Nothing new, practice is the key :)
