Chocolate, vanilla and lime. Bathroom

Here is my new bathroom project.

Brief:

You have been called in to plan and design a bathroom for Robert Hillier, a client who is tall and generously-sized. This is the only bathroom in the property, an Art Deco style semi-detached house built in 1923 on the edge of a large city. The bathroom is currently used by the client and any guests he might have.
Robert wants a power shower in the bathroom, in addition to a WC, a bidet and ‘his’ and ‘hers’ basins to cope with the morning rush. He also wants adequate storage for toiletries, spare toilet rolls, bath towels etc. He tells you he wants a room with a ‘contemporary’ feel, he likes limestone or coloured glass sinks, and wants an ‘unusual’ bath which should be of generous proportions.
This should be a luxury bathroom, and although there is a fairly large budget the client does not want any major structural changes. Remember that in order to access the external soil stack you should position the WC against one of the (two) external walls.

Failed resubmission

I was offered to resubmit the Axonometric projection, part of the project 3.2.  And, as I mentioned before, instead of reworking the axonometry only I decided to rework all together, project 2.2 Bathroom Planning and all project 3.2 including axonometry obviously.  Because at the final stage I realized that I am not happy with my bathroom despite the fact that I have got a good marks for it. Now I am happy with bathroom but I did not get it marked, here is the part of  email from Judy Jarman, Head of Open Learning office explaining the reason:

“In your Section 3 marking tutor recommended that you should send in the pencil and inked drawings relating to the colour rendered axo you submitted. As these had been omitted, these particular drawings would have been accepted for marking.

However you submitted a totally new version of the project (which was not what had been asked for) and so this could not be accepted for marking.

(The resubmissions policy is set out in the Open Learning Agreement and aims to be fair to all students, only allowing resubmissions as requested by the marking tutor for work that has failed or is missing.)”

What is absolutely fair. I have got a mixed fillings, from one hand I am a bit disappointed that I did not improve my mark for 3th set of projects, but from other hand I am glad I reworked the project, as I am satisfied with it completely now. And it is a strong project for my portfolio I would not be ashamed to show to my clients. I mean first option was ok for student project, and the second one is good enough for real customer. For my opinion. I think I would not resubmit it again to save my and tutor’s time, I just take my lesson for the future and share it here in my diary :)

Bathroom improvements

As soon as I started to rework my axonometry (project 3.2) I found that I do not like this bathroom anymore. It is not contemporary enough, I feel that the space can be used better, customer wanted the limestone or glass basins, the gap between bath and wall is too narrow. I need to rework it totally from the scratch. I know it is stupid to create more work for myself when nobody asked. But I know what is going to happen next – I will hate this project more and more and I would not be happy with final view of rendered axonometry. Interior design supposed to be my dream job, so it is just not right to work on something I do not like anymore. Several steps back – start from concept board and walls.

Sketch Book

All students have to submit the sketch books with 3d module, here are the comments I have got for mine plus one good idea for future from tutor. Indeed, as soon as sketching is my strong side it is good idea to make more hand drawings for my projects. And to include some into my boards. Will try it in 4 module.

Third module is back with marks

Today i have got my third module back from school. Unexpectedly quick, I thought it will take about month. Got B overall.  I think I will publish every project as separate post now to show everything in details. I have to resubmit two projects, so my timeline is going to be changed slightly :)

Well… there is room for improvement obviously. But good thing is that I have never got any comments about wrong space planning or colour matching, It is all about presentation only. What is still important. From my way of presenting it is not even clear that I have got a brief… It is not enough just to make a good layout, you need to sell it properly. My advertising experience should help here, in agency we used to make a brilliant presentations for our clients. The difference is that I am not in a team now, I have to do it alone :)

Here is the starting point!

Well, here we go. I almost finished my third set of projects, it took about 2 years! Not a perfect timing, I know. Since now I am focused on studying only, we moved closer to London, I found several mates to move on together. And I am starting this blog now – to track my progress and to share it with girls. All these together have to work as a strong motivation. That was the main idea. MOTIVATION. Come on ladies, dream job is waiting!
